Yumali / Netherton Fire

In November of 2020, the Yumali / Netherton Fire burnt through a large area of our property, as well 13 other family farming business.

For us, it has burnt un-harvested crops, pastures, razed a shearing shed, our header and front, and ute with fire fighting equipment. Not to mention many kilometres of fencing and water infrastructure.

On the livestock side of things, the fire has claimed some sheep, but contrary to information posted elsewhere, WE HAVE NOT LOST OUR STUD FLOCKS. We have managed to retain the Poll Merino Stud Ewes, Ram Lambs and Ewe Lambs on property, while we set up containment pens.

Our White Suffolk and Poll Dorset Stud flocks are run on another part of the farm, unaffected by the fire.

We have a long road ahead no doubt, but are greatful for all the offers of assistance and support we have been receiving.

Most importantly no lives were lost in the fire, although some did sustain burns. We continue to support those families affected in their recovery.

The volunteer firefighters and farm fire units did an amazing job considering the circumstances, as did the volunteers on the strike teams that came down to relieve locals and mop up the fire ground.

We are now focused on moving forward, rising up and making the best from this unfortunate event.
